How do you setup a Fishing Rod?

As a fisherman, you will feel fulfilled when using a fishing rod that you made yourself. These simple steps will guide you on the basics to make your own fishing rod.

Step 1

Firstly, take the fishing line and run it through the positioned holes on your rod. These holes are the small loops or rings hanging along the lower side of the rod. It’s always advisable to start from the farthest end and work your way towards the reel.

Step 2

Open the reel by removing the covering cap. Look out for the spool of the bail on the spinning reel and open it.  Tie the line on it with a little knot. Tie another knot over the first one. Finally, pull the two knots tight against the reel.

Step 3

Close out the bail. You can do this by lowering the wire arm as far as it may go.This will make the line locked in one place. Make sure that the line comes out done. If not, you can uplift the bail and do the knot once again.

Step 4

Start swirling the fishing line into the spool.  Wrap the line in the same direction that your bail is rotating towards to.Continue doing this until when there is about an eighth of an inch gap between the outside edge of the spool and the line.

Step 5

Remember you had opened the reel and you need to close it. The reel now has the new line threaded on it. Pass the remaining line through the hole on the cover of the reed. Safely put the covering cap on the reel twisting it in a clockwise direction.

Step 6

Cut the line just a few feet from the tip of the rod. Be careful not to cut the hanging line under the rod’s line guides. Then tie the line onto a snap swivel with a strong knot.

Step 7

Take your hook and leader and connect them to the other hand of the swivel. A good leader should be around 18 inches.

Step 8

Take a sinker or floater and attach it to the slider.A nice sinker should be light in weight and be able to hold the bait down.  This helps to stay in place and not be moved by the strong currents.

Step 9

Finally, decide on the type of bait you will use. Take your bait and put it on the hook. You now ready to go into the water and start your fishing adventure.
